Notwithstanding spring showers and cool overcast skies, CCA's May and June autocross events were very successful and well attended. Be sure to catch Bill Sandusky's article for a more complete report and pictures. Poor weather conditions did cause us to reschedule the Brightview Car Show to Saturday, September 22, 2018. May's shop night turned out to be every bit as informative as expected as member Tony Avedisian (Tony's Corvette Shop) discussed maintenance and resolving common problems with the C4s, C5s and C6s. We hope to be able to get Paul Moorcones (Radial Tire) at a future shop night to discuss tire selection and suspension considerations.
CCA's 45th Annual Car Show is fast approaching (Sunday, July 15, 2018). Posters have been printed, awards ordered, a DJ and music secured, and a food truck serving breakfast and lunch has been contracted. We are looking for volunteers to help relocate Sport's auto inventory on Saturday, July 14th after 3 PM and after the show ends on Sunday, July 15th . As you may have heard this year we have opened show participation up to all makes and models and we really expect an increase in the number of entries. I strongly encourage all club members to register their Corvettes for the show. Most members I've spoken to have some beautiful cars and this is a perfect opportunity to clean them up and show them with pride. As you might suspect the success of this show depends on the efforts of a lot of people. We will be looking for your favorable response to an email request for volunteers coming out in the next couple of weeks.
CCA's 62nd Founders' Day Picnic is also fast approaching (Sunday, August 5, 2018). We will be returning to the Hidden Hills Farm and Vineyard in Frederick, Maryland from 11 AM to 2 PM. The Vineyard promises a great selection of wines for tastings. And the winery is a beautiful drive through the Frederick countryside. Mission Barbeque will again be providing the food. Registration and pricing information will be available on the website soon. You'll get an email reminder.
One other event coming up in August which several members of the club will be participating in is the Chin Motorsports HPDE event at Summit Point Raceway on August 11-12, 2018. This is a great opportunity for those who might be interested in signing up for a future HPDE event and who would be interested in riding along with an instructor to get a feel for the event. See Pat Roney's column or the club website for more information.
And finally, here's an early heads-up on the club's planned participation in the 2019 National Corvette Caravan to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky August 28-31, 2019. Between the drive down, the event, and the return trip this will probably be a week-long event. Several members of the club are meeting with the organizers during July to sort out preliminary logistics. Details to follow.
Be sure to check the calendar for details on the dates and times of all club events.
In closing this month's column, I would like to invite all members to join us in one of our many club activities. Whether it is an autocross, one of our monthly business meetings (second Tuesday night at the Greene Turtle in Burtonsville), shop night (fourth Tuesday evening at Sport Chevrolet) or one of the many cruises and trips planned for this coming year. Please consider coming and joining other members in enjoying life with your Corvette.
